Fun, friendly fashion is the name of the game at Monkee’s of Lake Norman in Davidson, which recently took top honors in the Charlotte Magazine Best of the Best awards.
Since owner Sandy Bowers opened the flagship store in 2008 (the smaller Monkee’s on Main followed in 2010), women across the greater Charlotte area have flocked to the well-edited, personal boutique that makes the tagline “You Might Need a Bigger Closet” a reality.
That ease and warmth is dovetailed with an incredible roster of designers — including Michael Kors, Kate Spade, BCBG, Milly and Tibi among others — to create a retail experience unlike any other in the region.
Then there are the shoes. A self-professed handbag and shoe obsessive, Sandy (who was recently named one of 2011's top five most stylish people in Charlotte) has created in Monkee’s of Lake Norman a footwear Mecca of sorts, featuring lines such as Frye, Tory Burch, Vince Camuto, Sesto Meucci and Jack Rogers, among others.
